The Sacrament of Confirmation confers the fullness and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit to root us more firmly in our relationship with Jesus Christ, strengthen our bond with His Church, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith. This Sacrament is conferred on candidates no earlier than the 9th grade.

To prepare for this sacrament, candidates must be enrolled in the religious education program for at least two (2) years, be liturgically involved at Mass (such as an altar server starting in 8th grade), participate in the preparation classes in the 8th and 9th grades, which normally start in the Fall, and attend the Confirmation retreat. Fulfilling the requirements indicates the candidate’s readiness and desire to receive this Sacrament.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is not to be forced upon anyone, nor is it to be viewed as a guarantee or entitlement. Pastors may neither deny a person this sacrament, nor are they to provide it without ensuring that the candidate is ready to receive it.
